DatachecK HL7

DatachecK has an optional HL7 (Health Level 7) module to receive orders from your EMR.

HL7 is basically a set of standards and protocols that ensure medical information is received as it was transmitted.

While this is typically an option for DatachecK requested by hospital labs, there are more private labs choosing to set up their own EMR scenarios, and our HL7 module provides seamless integration between your installation of DatachecK and the EMR repository.

DatachecK HL7 has the following:

Message Description
ACK (General Acknowledgment message)
ORM (Order Message)
ORU (Unsolicited transmission of an Observation Message)

HL7 order.
In the HL7 Standard, an order (ORM) is any request for materials or services. Orders are usually for a particular patient, but they can also be for a department.

The transmission of clinical Orders occurs between the Application placing the Order (the Placer), and the Clinical Application filling the Order (the Filler).

Typically, the caregiver (e.g., physician) is entering orders on the HIS application which acts as the placer application in HL7 messaging. The system to which the order is targeted (e.g., DatachecK) is the Filler of the Order.

HL7 Results
In HL7 messaging, ORU messages provide structured patient-oriented clinical data between systems (e.g., Vascular results to Electronic Medical Records System).

Clinical Observations can include:

  • Patient Demographics
  • History, Risk Factors, Clinical Observations
  • Primary Indication
  • Findings of studies
  • Interpretation
  • Tech Notes
  • Encapsulated Data
  • Reference pointer

Observation HL7 segments:

  • MSH
  • PID
  • ORC
  • OBR
  • OBX

DataStar Systems can provide a quote for HL7 with your existing, or new DatachecK.  For a preview of DatachecK with HL7, or to get a copy of our latest HL7 Conformance Statement, contact DataStar Systems today.
